Top Ten Cover Songs
(This is in no particular order.)
(I'll be moving this to waitingforwonderful at the beginning of November after I'm finished with 100 Words)

The Gourds – Gin & Juice
Everyone thinks this is Phish. It is not. It is The Gourds, who are among the best bluegrass-ish bands ever. I think it's HILARIOUS that they have banjoes in a song that says "...keep comin' up with funky ass shit..."

Kenny Chesney – Please Come to Boston
I have always loved this song, and I think Kenny covers it amazingly well. I can't even handle how honest he sounds.

Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love
I'm not even ashamed of this, as I think I should be. I HATED this song 'till MM covered it, and now I can't get enough of this version or the Soft Cell version.

Letters to Cleo – I Want You to Want Me
I think LTC's version of this song brings the energy Cheap Trick should have brought in the first place.

The Lemonheads – Mrs. Robinson
I think I might just be a sucker for this song and will love it no matter who covers it.

Tim McGraw – Angry All The Time
I don't think anyone [else] has even ever heard the original of this song. But Tim McGraw covers it fabulously, and it remains my all-time favorite song of his.

O.A.R./Matt Nathanson – With or Without You
Probably haven't heard this cover unless you were at the OAR/MN tour this year. But when O.A.R. is up there with all their instruments and Matt walks out to sing this fabulous U2 song with them, you can't help but sway and sing the "Oh, oh, oh, ohhhhhhhhhs" like you're Bono himself.

Babyface/Des’ree –Fire

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Oh, no. Big slim dogg. This is on some horrible soundtrack (whyTF can't I remember the name of it?), and was pretty much the only song I listened to off the CD. But I sure listened to it a LOT.

Counting Crows - Friend of the Devil
There are so many good covers by CC. I think this is my favorite, though, because I feel like Adam and Jerry Garcia would have been BFFs if timing had worked out that way.

Edwin McCain - Romeo & Juliet
Oh, Edwin. How I love thee. I think his voice brings a certain amount of sincerity to this song. Marc Knopfler. Pfft.
